Update 7/18/07: The Burning Book website -- complete with more details/images/bedlam/tour dates than you can shake a flaming stick at -- just went live at www.burningbook.net.

Update 1/10/07: I'm all aflutter over the Burning Book cover, which just went live on Simon & Schuster's Web site. It was designed by Michael Nagin, featuring photography by Jared Mechaber and typography from Martin Venezky.

In my humble-yet-biased opinion, it's rather fetching! The book is now up for pre-order at Amazon, minus (for now) its spiffy cover.

Update 10/19/06: Just got back from Portland; house-finding mission accomplished!

Update 10/6/06:
I've just accepted a job covering the three C's -- cops, courts, n' crime -- at The Oregonian. Now I'm in a packing frenzy, preparing to move from New York to Portland. But there's still time for one more East Coast hurrah:

Yes, it's a silly invite, but if I procrastinate on Web stuff anymore, the dishes won't get swaddled in bubble wrap, the books won't get boxed, the....oh, man. It's going to be a long night.

p.s. So long as we're speaking of Oregon, why not nerd out with online comics based on the beloved edutainment classic, Oregon Trail? Or enjoy the game in its original splendor (note: Internet Explorer only -- blagh). Of course, I'm not doing any of this. I am diligently packing my belongings.

On a side note, Burning Book is ramping up for production -- hooray!

Update 9/8/06:
I've returned from a month on the West Coast and a 16-day stint working on the Flaming Lotus Girls' Serpent Mother installation at the Burning Man festival (see my video here or on YouTube; a few stills are up on Flickr).

Fire safety is fun! I'm the one grinning like a nut...photo from Geofff

(addendum 9/9/06: Today one of Dorothy Trojanowski's Rubber Horses, which were all the rage at Burning Man in 2005, rolled down Wooster Street in the Deitch Projects Art Parade. I got there just in time to watch people admire it at the end of the route. Then I helped D and two other ladies -- three of us workin' in skirts, mind you -- pry the rebar beastie apart and load it into the van, where Petey was lolling in wait....)

Earlier updates and pics now live here.
